Dictate End User License Agreement
Version 1.0. Effective 2026-10-20. This agreement covers Dictate 1.x for macOS and for Windows. The license is the x4ops subscription that covers every x4ops application.
This is an agreement between you and x4ops (the Licensor and the publisher of Dictate at https://x4ops.com). It covers the Dictate application and its documentation (the Software). By downloading or installing or using the Software you accept this agreement. If you do not accept it do not use the Software.
1. The trial
You may use the Software free of charge for 14 days from your first launch on a computer to decide whether it fits your needs. The trial copy is the full Software. The trial starts with one online contact between the Software and the Licensor's server at license.x4ops.com which records the first start it saw for that computer so the 14 days count from that date whatever happens to the files on the computer. After the 14 days the Software still opens and keeps your settings and models and history and refuses to insert dictated text until a license key is entered. A computer that never reaches that server cannot start the trial.
2. The license
When you subscribe the Licensor grants you a personal and non exclusive and non transferable license to install and use the Software and every other application the Licensor publishes under the x4ops name for as long as your subscription is paid. The subscription costs 9.99 EUR every 6 months through Stripe which renews it by itself until you cancel. You receive a license key by email. One key covers one named person on up to 3 computers (Mac or Windows PC) that this person uses and each computer activates the key once through the Licensor's server. A computer that runs more than one x4ops application counts once. A business or a team buys one subscription per person who uses the Software. You cancel at any time in your Link account and the key stays active until the end of the period you paid for. When a renewal payment fails the key stays active for 3 days and then stops until a payment succeeds. The Licensor may stop a key that is used beyond these terms or that was obtained without payment or that was refunded.
3. What you may not do
You may not sell or rent or lease or lend or sublicense or redistribute the Software or any part of it. You may not share your license with another person. You may not remove or change any notice in the Software. You may not reverse engineer or decompile or disassemble the Software except where the law allows it regardless of this agreement. You may not use the Software to break the law or to harm another person or system.
4. Speech models
The Software downloads speech models published by third parties on huggingface.co and runs them on your computer. The models are licensed by their publishers under their own terms and are not part of the Software. The Licensor does not promise that a model recognises every word or every speaker. You check the text the Software inserts before you rely on it.
5. Permissions and your data
On macOS the Software needs the Microphone and Accessibility permissions to work. It records audio only while you hold the talk key or while hands free dictation is listening and turns it into text on your computer and keeps no recording. It stores its settings and the history of your last 100 transcripts and the downloaded models and its trial and license records in one folder on your computer. The transcripts stay in that folder until you clear the history. It contacts huggingface.co to download a model you chose and sends nothing about you. It contacts the Licensor's server at license.x4ops.com in these moments and sends these fields and nothing else: when the trial starts and about once a day during the trial a hash of the machine and the trial start date and the name and version of the Software. At activation the license key and a hash of the machine and the name and version. About once a day while licensed and online a hash of the key and a hash of the machine and the name and version. The reply of that check carries the end date of your paid period so the Software can show it and stop at it. When you remove the license from a computer a hash of the key and a hash of the machine so the seat frees. Every call also carries the protocol version (the number 1) and the version of the Software in its User-Agent header and the trial and activation and check calls carry a random request number that the signed reply echoes. The server sees the internet address the computer connects from and keeps it in memory for 10 minutes to limit the number of requests per address and the hosting platform keeps it in its standard request logs and no license record stores it. It sends no name and no email address and no audio and no transcript. A licensed computer works offline for 30 days after its last check and then needs one check before it inserts text again. One key covers up to 3 computers and the server keeps the list of the hashed machines per key. The checkout provider passes the Licensor your email address and order id so the key can be sent to you and the Licensor keeps the order id and a hash of the address.
6. Refunds
If the Software does not work for you ask for a refund of the current period within 14 days of its payment by email to support@x4ops.com with your receipt. You receive the full amount of that payment back and your subscription ends and the key stops working at its next check. After 14 days the payment is final and you keep the Software until the end of the paid period.
7. Updates and support
The Licensor may publish updates to the Software at any time and is not obliged to publish any update. Updates published while your subscription is active are covered by it. Support is given by email as time allows and without a promise of a response time.
8. Ownership
The Software is licensed and not sold. The Licensor keeps every right and title and interest in the Software including every copy you make. This agreement gives you no right to any trademark or name of the Licensor.
9. No warranty
The Software is provided as is and with every fault and without any warranty of any kind whether express or implied. This includes without limit the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose and non infringement. The Licensor does not promise that the Software is free of errors or that it works without interruption or that it fits your needs or that the inserted text is accurate. You use the Software at your own risk. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows the Licensor is not liable for any indirect or incidental or special or consequential or punitive damages or for any loss of profit or data or use that arises from or relates to the Software or this agreement even when the Licensor was told that such damages were possible. The total liability of the Licensor for every claim under this agreement is limited to the amount you paid for the current period. Some jurisdictions do not allow the limitation of liability so parts of this section may not apply to you.
11. Termination
This agreement lasts until it ends. It ends at once if you break any of its terms. It also ends when your subscription ends and is not renewed. You may end it at any time by deleting every copy of the Software. When it ends you must stop using the Software and delete every copy. Sections 3 and 4 and 8 and 9 and 10 survive the end of this agreement.
12. Changes to this agreement
The Licensor may update this agreement for future versions of the Software. The version that applies to you is the version that came with the release you use. The current text is published at https://dictate.x4ops.com/terms.
13. Whole agreement
This agreement is the whole agreement between you and the Licensor about the Software. If a court finds a part of it unenforceable the rest stays in force. A failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of that term.
